The Detox Program is the Beginning of Addiction Treatment in New York
June 15, 2008
It is quite fallacious to consider that detox treatment in New York is the end of the addiction treatment program. Most people think that their three to seven day detox program is all that they need to come out of the addiction. The aggressiveness of the detox program does make them feel that way, and when they leave the center they have the feeling of already being treated. But this is quite wrong. In fact, the detox treatment is the beginning of the addiction treatment in New York.
The addiction treatment program in New York is quite sure of the fact that addiction is a mental problem. When the person undergoes the detox program, it is only the physical manifestation of it that is treated. However, the addiction still resides within the mind of the person because the craving for the substance is not yet killed. As long as the person remembers what the substance tastes like and what kind of high it can give, he or she will never be able to come out of the addiction.
Hence, after the detox treatment, the person is immediately put into an aftercare treatment program in New York. This is where the person is counseled on how to combat the urges for the substance if they occur. This aftercare program is quite extensive because it includes an educational program and training for the person on various meditative and even spiritual methods for preventing a relapse into the addiction. The family of the patient is also included in this part of the treatment program; they are taught how they can effectively deal with the situation.
